The Sensex closed with marginal gains amid lacklustre session. Buying was seen in realty, metal, pharma, IT and banking stocks while auto, oil & gas stocks witnessed selling pressure. Infosys, ICICI Bank, L&T, ITC and HDFC were the positive contributors to the Sensex. However, Reliance, SBI, ONGC, HUL and NTPC were the negative contributors to the Sensex.(Provisional figures) The Sensex was up 62.24 points or 0.38% at 16299.29, and the Nifty was up 13.65 points or 0.28% at 4870.05.
The markets breadth was negative, about 925 shares advanced, 1980 shares declined, and 267 shares unchanged.
Top gainers on the Sensex were Sun Pharma at Rs 1,571.95 up 2.37%, DLF at Rs 289.85 up 1.67%, ICICI Bank at Rs 845.35 up 1.64%, Sterlite Ind at Rs 758.75 up 1.58% and HDFC at Rs 2,513.20 up 1.29%.
op losers on the Sensex were Maruti Suzuki at Rs 1,336.85 down 3.24%, Reliance Infra at Rs 975.45 down 1.32%, M&M at Rs 980.45 down 1.25%, Hero Honda at Rs 1,691.55 down 0.87% and Tata Motors at Rs 699.10 down 0.83%.
Most active shares on BSE were Aqua Logistics, Titagarh Wagons, Monsanto India, Tata Steel and DLF.
In the auto spce, Bajaj Auto, Maruti Suzuki, Ashok Leyland, Apollo Tyres and Amtek Auto were down 3-4%.
In the oil & gas segment, BPCL, Cairn India, IOC, Aban Offshore and HPCL were down 1-2%.
Top losers on the BSE Midcap - Infotech Enter, Rashtriya Chem, Educomp Sol, IBN18 Broadcast and Guj Ind Power were 4-5%.
Top losers on the BSE Smallcap - Ushdev Int, Dhampur Sugar, Gee Kay Finance and HBL Power were down 4-17%.
The markets reported total turnover of Rs 96268.99 crore. This included Rs 10,457.59 crore from the NSE cash segment, Rs 82,263.99 crore from the NSE F&O and the balance Rs 3,547.41 crore from the BSE cash segment.
